For Healthcare Professionals

The OET (Occupational English Test) is an English language exam designed for the healthcare sector.

 

This test proves you have the right level of English to work or study in healthcare in English-speaking countries such as the UK, the US, Australia and New Zealand.

This course focuses on developing all four language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) and learning the kind of language you will need every day at work.

To take this course you must have a B2 level of English proficiency and should have a basic knowledge of healthcare-related vocabulary and terminology.

 

This course is 30 hours total, spread over 5 weeks. There are 3 classes a week with each class lasting 2 hours (totalling 6 hours a week).

The topics you will learn are split as follows:

OET Preparation Classes 

By the end of this course you will:

​

  • Improve your English language skills in the areas of reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

  • Be able to use a range of medical language with confidence.

  • Be familiar with the format of the OET exam.

  • Learn strategies and techniques to help you take the OET exam successfully.

Week 1

  • Introduction to the OET exam and its format

  • Assessment of students’ language level and areas for improvement

  • Strategies for Reading

  • Practice exercises for Reading 

Week 2

  • Strategies for Listening

  • Practice exercises for Listening

 

 

 

Week 3

  • Strategies for Writing, including grammar and vocabulary

  • Assessment of students’ written work and feedback for improvement

Week 4

  • Strategies for Speaking, including pronunciation and fluency

  • Mock Speaking tests for assessment and feedback

Week 5

  • Full mock tests covering all four skills

  • Review of exam format, timing and requirements

  • Final feedback and assessment
