What Is a Proofreading Service?

One of the extra services we offer is proofreading documents for you. But what is proofreading and do you really need it?

What is proofreading?

Proofreading is carefully checking written work for any mistakes before it is shared or published. Common mistakes to check for while proofreading are spelling, grammar, punctuation and formatting.

Why do I need to proofread?

It is important to proofread documents to make sure errors are found and corrected because these errors can make your work harder to read and understand. Having errors in your work can also affect your grade if the document is for school or university and make you come across as unprofessional if it is for work. Proofreading shows you care about your work and will make a good impression.

Can I proofread myself?

Technically, yes you can, however even people with a high fluency of English can make mistakes. If English is not your first language you may be more likely to make grammar and syntax mistakes without realising. You can also be so used to your work that you miss errors another pair of eyes can catch.

What documents should I get proofread?

While you should check for mistakes in everything you write, a text message to a friend is not the same as an essay. We suggest getting important documents professionally proofread: this could be academic documents such as essays and dissertations or professional documents such as business proposals, CVs and personal statements.

What’s included in your proofreading services?

For our proofreading services you can expect correction of all spelling mistakes, punctuation and grammatical errors, checking of references and citations and we’ll provide feedback on your work.
